Ingushetia: refugees report attempts to ruin their housing facilities

The forced migrants from North Ossetia, who live in Nazran, told about the workers' attempts to dismantle their barracks. The head of Ingushetia has set up a commission to address migrants' housing problems of immigrants.

In April, 2019, 15 migrant families from the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, who live in barracks in Nazran, received a Mayoralty's demand to move out. The barrack tenants complained that they had nowhere to go, since they were not provided with other housing; and it was impossible to buy housing for the money allocated for refugees.

In the fall of 1992, an Ossetian-Ingush armed conflict broke out in the Prigorodny district of North Ossetia. According to the Prosecutor's Office, 583 people perished. From 30,000 to 60,000 Ingushes were forced to leave their homes.

The above incident happened on the following day after the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, assured the female residents of the barracks that they would not be evicted, Khava Tsitskieva, a tenant of one of the barracks, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"He said that no one will be evicted, and promised to deal with this issue. A day later the workers came and began destroying half of the barrack," Lida Tsurova, another local tenant, has added.

The tenants are evicted because the barracks "are located in the busiest place, opposite the market; and this piece of land has long been in the field of interest of entrepreneurs," Ruslan Akhilgov, a tenant, has suggested.

"People live in terrible conditions. Many are in a hopeless situation: they live there with children, and with disabled elderly relatives," said Djambulat Ozdoev, the Ombudsperson for Ingushetia.

According to the law, the barrack tenants have the right to live "in normal conditions," Khadidja Gadaborsheva, a lawyer of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", believes.
