Participant of "Immortal Regiment" action detained in Tbilisi

A participant of the rally was detained for using Soviet symbols banned in Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Georgia reported. In Tbilisi, a counteraction with anti-Russian slogans was held simultaneously with the "Immortal Regiment" action.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January, Georgia adopted amendments to the "Freedom Charter" to legally prohibit the use of symbols reflecting the totalitarian communist regime and the promotion of the totalitarian communist and fascist ideology.

Today, several actions have been held in Tbilisi in connection with the celebration of Victory Day. Participants of the "Immortal Regiment" action came to the Vake Park with portraits of Joseph Stalin and banners in support of rapprochement with Russia, the "Sova" reports.

In their turn, participants of the counteraction held a procession to the Vake Park. They brought photos of a hero of the five-day war of 2008 and anti-occupation banners. According to organizers of the action, the counteraction was peaceful. It was not aimed at disrupting the "Immortal Regiment" action, noted an organizer as quoted by the "Georgia Online".

The MIA of Georgia reported about detention of a participant of the action held in the Vake Park. According to the Georgian MIA, the man, born in 1969, was taken to the police station for using Soviet symbols, the "First Channel of Georgia" reports today.
