Court prolongs arrest of blogger Alibek Mirzekhanov for two months

Alibek Mirzekhanov, a native of Dagestan, accused of having links to militants and recruiting supporters for the "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by the court, will be kept in custody until June 20.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 20, Alibek Mirzekhanov, detained in a case on a mass fight near the "Neolith" cafe in Moscow, was released and immediately detained on suspicion of recruiting people for Syrian militants. On February 21, the court arrested him for two months.

The fight with shooting occurred near the "Neolith" cafe on February 14. According to eyewitnesses, from 50 to 100 people, natives of Chechnya and Azerbaijan, participated in the fight. According to sources, the conflict was preceded by mutual insults of Chechens and Azerbaijanis in social networks. The incident was discussed by Adam Delimkhanov, a State Duma member from Chechnya, and Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbul oglu.

It should be noted that the blogger's brother associated the arrest of Alibek Mirzekhanov with his persecution by law enforcers in Dagestan, from where he fled after his kidnapping and torture in 2013.
