Policeman suspected of beating up Dagestani resident
A criminal case has been initiated against a road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) inspector suspected of beating up a resident of the Kayakent District of Dagestan, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported. In its turn, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) asserts that physical force was lawfully applied to the man after he disobeyed the policemen.
According to investigators, on February 12, the policeman "delivered multiple blows" to the above local resident, who refused to voluntarily go to the police station for checking documents.
"The man received harm of moderate severity to his health," says the statement posted on February 27 on the website of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF.
The criminal case was initiated under the article on abuse of office with the use of violence.
The incident occurred in the village of Novokayakent after policemen stopped a car for breaking the traffic rules.
A passenger of the car was a 36-year-old resident of the village of Kayakent, who, according to law enforcers, refused to show his driver's license and documents for the car, "used foul language against policemen, threatened them with physical violence and prevented the driver from being taken to the police station."
"In accordance with the police law, physical force was used against the passenger [...] Later, the young man decided that he was treated unfairly and appealed to the prosecutor's office with a report that the policeman had exceeded his powers," says the website of the republic's MIA.
