Ramzan Kadyrov appoints his successor

Ramzan Kadyrov appointed Chechen government's chairman Muslim Khuchiev the acting leader of the republic for the period of his inability to work.

On February 13, the order of the Chechen leader to appoint Muslim Khuchiev the acting leader of Chechnya was published on the website of the administration of the leader and government of the Chechen Republic.

Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov has made it clear that he considers his cousin Adam Delimkhanov, a State Duma MP, to act as his successor. Magomed Daudov, the chairman of the Chechen parliament, also gained a strong position in Chechnya. Adam Delimkhanov is closer to Ramzan Kadyrov and more loyal, while Magomed Daudov is a more independent and ambitious person, notes rights defender Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya.

The career of the new acting leader of the republic was not even, and he fell from grace for a while. In 2007, Ramzan Kadyrov appointed Muslim Khuchiev the Mayor of Grozny, but in 2012, he resigned after criticizing Ramzan Kadyrov. The leader of Chechnya accused Muslim Khuchiev of "abuses and violations."

Muslim Khuchiev worked for several months as a PR assistant to the leader of the republic and then was appointed the head of the new ministry in the government of the Chechen Republic. In July 2015, Muslim Khuchiev returned to the post of the Mayor of Grozny. On June 25, 2018, Ramzan Kadyrov appointed Muslim Khuchiev as the chairman of the Chechen government.
