Kadyrov's gift to Nurmagomedov's coach reminds of subsidies to Chechnya

The father and trainer of Dagestani fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov thanked the leader of Chechnya for a Mercedes car presented by the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation. Some residents of Chechnya and social network users found the luxury gestures of the authorities inappropriate against the background of poverty in the republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov threatened his son with "severe punishment" for the clash after the Dagestani athlete's fight with Irishman athlete Conor McGregor on October 7, 2018.

On February 5, Khabib Nurmagomedov visited Grozny and met Ramzan Kadyrov, reports today the spokesman for the administration of the leader and government of Chechnya. "The head of the region expressed his support for Khabib. Last week, by the decision of the Nevada Athletic Commission in the United States, the Dagestani athlete received suspension for 9 months and a fine of 500,000 US dollars. A Mercedes SUV was presented to the father and coach of Khabib Nurmagomedov as a gift," the spokesman reported.

After defeating Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov himself received from the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation a Mercedes W222 car worth at least six million roubles. Ramzan Kadyrov handed the car keys over to the athlete.

"What do our leaders have in mind when presenting such generous gifts, especially against the background of the scandal with an attempt to write off nine billion roubles of the gas debt? If we were accumulating the funds spent in recent years on remunerations and gifts to celebrities, actors, and athletes, then it would be possible to cover part of the gas debt," said Salamu, a local resident.

In the comments on the Khabib Nurmagomedov's Instagram page, some users expressed their envy to the athlete, others found he deserved the gift, and some reminded about subsidies to Chechnya. "This is a gift paid by taxpayers," notes the user kurbanlife.

"I wonder where the leader of Chechnya gets so much money to present such gifts and so often?" the user aromatix_oil wondered.
