Investigators stop the murder case of eight Dagestanis in Chechnya

The criminal case about eight residents of Dagestan, killed in a shootout in the Gudermes District of Chechnya in October 2016, is closed. Relatives of the casualties demanded to investigate the case, but they stopped it anyway, the "Mediazona" reports quoting Andrei Sabinin, an Agora's lawyer.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on October 9, 2016, during a shootout in the Gerzel-Engel-Yurt highway in the Gudermes District of Chechnya, eight alleged militants were killed and four policemen wounded. One of the eight casualties was identified as the 33-year-old militant leader Ali Demilkhanov, said a source. The Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated that the casualties were members of the same grouping and had planned terror acts.

In April 2017, the Chechen Prosecutor's Office reported violations at the investigation of the case. In particular, the case materials failed to include the results of forensic examinations; and a number of witnesses were not questioned.
