ECtHR awards 1.6 million euros to relatives of those who went missing in Chechnya and Ingushetia

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has issued its judgments on 20 disappearances of residents of Chechnya and Ingushetia in 2002-2005 and obliged the Russian authorities to pay compensations to their relatives. The total amount of compensations exceeds 1.6 million euros, says the website of the project "Legal Initiative".

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" represented the interests of Aza Kukurkhoeva, a residents of the Ingush village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya (now, the town of Sleptsovsk), who had complained about the kidnapping of her husband Girikhan Tsechoev in 2004 by law enforcers.

In the case "Soltagiraeva et al versus Russia", the point is the cleansing of the village of Gudermes, where on April 2, 2002, militaries detained Askhab Soltagiraev.

In the case "Kulishova versus Russia", the mother had claimed the kidnapping of Dmitry Kulishov from an apartment in Grozny. After armed men detained him at night on March 15, 2005, the mother was unaware of her son's whereabouts.
