Court acquits rally participant in Ingushetia

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has annulled the fine imposed on Akhmet-Bashir Aushev, the deputy chairman of the Council of Republic's Teips (Clans), who took part in a protest rally against the agreement on the border with Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Magas District Court had fined Aushev for participating in the rally by 10,000 roubles. His defence filed an appeal.

The signing on September 26 by Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov of the agreement on fixing the Chechen-Ingush border triggered mass protests, the participants of which demanded to bring the border issue to a referendum.

Aushev himself was absent at the today's SC's session. His interests were represented by advocate Djabrail Kuriev, who read out the text of the appeal. After the investigation and debates, the court briefly retired to the deliberation room. The defence's arguments were adopted and the fine was cancelled, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who was present at the session, reports.

Earlier, lawyer Kuriev explained that his client did not shout any slogans at the rally, did not hold any posters, did not violate the public order, while the policemen present at the rally did not announce its illegality.
