Tbilisi court refuses to consider Saralidze's lawsuit against law enforcers

The Tbilisi City Court has stopped considering the claim lodged by Zaza Saralidze, who demanded to cancel the police's ban to set up tents in Rustaveli Avenue. Tents were set up, despite the ban; and the consideration of the lawsuit is senseless, the judge has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 10, public activists came to the Parliament of Georgia located in Rustaveli Avenue to set up tents in the place, where Zaza Saralidze, the father of one of the murdered schoolboys, was holding his protest. Policemen interfered and tried to take tents away from the protesters.

On December 1, 2017, two 16-year-old schoolchildren died from stab wounds got in a fight. Zaza Saralidze, the father of one of the killed schoolchildren, stated that investigators covered up the persons guilty of the murder. Since September 10, Zaza Saralidze has been holding a protest rally in front of the Georgian parliament building with the demand for fair punishment for them.

Zaza Saralidze, commenting on today's court decision, has stressed that he had not received an answer to his main question – on what grounds the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) had forbidden to set up the tents in front of the Parliament. "The fact is that the tents are there; and there were no legal grounds for the ban," Mr Saralidze said on the air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company.

Sulkhan Saladze, the Chairman of the NGO "Young Lawyers' Association", which had drafted the lawsuit, has suggested that this decision of the court gives the MIA grounds to continue suppressing protesters' attempts to set up tents under the motive of "operative information."
