Activist Abulfaz Sadygbeili arrested in Baku

Abulfaz Sadygbeili, the head of the youth organization of the Azerbaijani opposition "Musavat" Party, is suspected of fraud. The activist is being persecuted for political reasons, his colleagues from the party believe.

On November 21, Abulfaz Sadygbeili was detained when he was summoned to come to investigators, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Sakhavat Soltanly, the deputy chairman of the "Musavat" Party. "The Sabail District Court has pronounced against Abulfaz Sadygbeili the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of arrest for a period of three months," Sakhavat Soltanly said. According to him, the activist is charged with fraud. "We are trying to clarify the details of the case," added the deputy chairman of the "Musavat" Party.

Abulfaz Sadygbeili is being persecuted on the fabricated charge, believes Arif Gadjily, the head of the "Musavat" Party. "We do not yet have any complete information, but according to the preliminary data, Abulfaz Sadygbeili was involved in a criminal case on use of a loan granted by the local 'Nikoil bank'. The loan was issued several years ago for purchase of a car. The money has already been returned and there is the documented evidence. Nevertheless, the bank claims the opposite. Abulfaz was first involved in the case as a witness. However, when they learned that he was the head of the 'Musavat' youth organization, they involved him as a defendant," Arif Gadjily told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
