Mamed Ibragim arrested on the day he left prison

Mamed Ibragim, an adviser to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who spent three years in a penal colony, was arrested again for two months for keeping a knife in his prison cell. 30 PFPA activists held an action in his support at the colony premises.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 27, two days before the end of the prison term, Mamed Ibragim was placed into the dungeon (punishment cell). The Penitentiary Service announced that he was punished for keeping a knife under his pillow. Ibragim disagreed and went on a protest hunger strike.

On March 15, 2016, the court found Mamed Ibragim guilty of hooliganism and sentenced him to three years in prison. Mamed Ibragim was put on the list of Azerbaijani political prisoners.

Turan Ibragim, Mamed's son, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on September 28, he was invited by Shakhin Gasanov, the head of Colony No. 16, who promised to set Mamed Ibragim free in the afternoon on September 29. "Today, we arrived at the colony by 11 a.m. to welcome the release of my father, but they told us that he was no longer there; he was taken to Baku SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison). No reasons were given to us," Turan Ibragim has noted.

According to his story, only two hours later he managed to find out, by means of the hotline of the Penitentiary Service, that his father was charged anew, this time under the article on keeping prohibited items in his prison cell; and that the court had ruled to arrest Mamed Ibragim for two months.

Today, about 30 PFPA activists gathered in front of the colony premises, chanting "Freedom!" "This is another act of authorities' lawlessness and continuation of repressions against PFPA," Ilham Gusein, a board member of the PFPA, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
