Court let journalists to attend trial in Oyub Titiev's case

Today, the court has pronounced a decision to let journalists attend the hearing in the case against Oyub Titiev, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 20, public prosecutor requested the court to hold the trial in the Oyub Titiev's case behind closed doors. He explained his request by the need to question law enforcers in the case. The court granted the prosecutor's motion. On September 20, the advocates of the rights defender stated that the court's decision to hold the hearings behind closed doors violated the Oyub Titiev's right to a fair trial, guaranteed by the Constitution and provided by the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights.

Today, after a break in the court hearing until 2:00 p.m. Moscow time, the court decided to continue the hearings in an open mode. According to the advocates of Oyub Titiev, other five witnesses are to be questioned after the break, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

"The trial in the Oyub's case is to be held in an open mode," wrote Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, the director at the Conflict Analysis and Prevention Centre. Today, she has come to the court to support Oyub Titiev.

It was decided to open the trial at the motion filed by the defence, reports the message posted in the Telegram channel of the HRC "Memorial".
