In Nagorno-Karabakh, fifth wine festival attracts attention of private winemakers

24 wine companies from Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia and 29 private winemakers took part in the fifth wine festival held in the village of Tog in the Hadrut District. Last year, the wine festival was attended only by ten private winemakers.

"At the festival, everyone could taste or buy wine. There was also a fair of agricultural products, works of applied art, souvenirs, and dishes of national cuisine," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Artak Grigoryan, the head of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Tourism.

The official has noted that the popularity of the wine festival in the village is growing every year.

"In addition to local residents, tourists from Armenia, Russia, and Europe came to the festival," Artak Grigoryan said.

According to Grigory Avanesyan, one of the organizers, an owner of the winemaking company from Nagorno-Karabakh, the purpose of the event is to stimulate the development of winemaking in Nagorno-Karabakh and to inform people about the diversity of wine production.

Nagorno-Karabakh has a potential for the development of winemaking, but that depends on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict and the recognition of independence, believes Benik Saiyan, an expert on wine making technology.

According to him, Karabakh wines have always been popular in the world and now they are in demand in Armenia and Russia.
