In Nagorno-Karabakh, Police Chief and State Minister resign

Kamo Agadjanyan, the chief of the Nagorno-Karabakh Police, explained his request for resignation by the demand voiced by the public. The reasons for the resignation of State Minister Araik Arutyunyan are still unknown.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, during a mass fight in Stepanakert, two local residents were beaten by law enforcers. The incident provoked a mass protest action. On June 4, it was suspended after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan voiced an appeal to let the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh fulfil the promises given to the protesters.

Today, the chief of the police has submitted his resignation letter to the President of Nagorno-Karabakh, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Police chief Kamo Agadjanyan explained his decision by the demand voiced by the public. "The new wave of protests gave everyone an excuse for thinking. My concern was provoked not only by the demand for my resignation, but I also had the goal not to jeopardize the internal and external security of the country," Kamo Agadjanyan notes in his statement posted on the Nagorno-Karabakh Police website today.

Araik Arutyunyan, State Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, has also resigned this morning. He intends to explain his decision at the today's press conference, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
