On deportation day, Ingush activists reproach authorities for lack of principles

Activist Barakh Chemurziev and rights defender Magomed Mutsolgov have stated that the authorities of Ingushetia are to cancel celebrating the Defender of the Fatherland Day on the day of mourning for the victims of Ingush deportation on February 23.

On February 22, for the first time in 74 years, North Ossetia held an event in memory of the victims of the deportation of Chechen and Ingush people in 1944. The action in Vladikavkaz was attended by 50 people, including Ossetian, Ingush, Russian and Armenian people. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Barakh Chemurziev, the head of the public movement "Support of Ingushetia".

According to him, in the course of the action, speeches were delivered by Ossetian and Ingush people, whose family members were repressed, and that was "very important for establishing ties and eradicating hostility between the nations."

Starting from February 15, the public movement "Support of Ingushetia" has been carrying out in the republic itself the action "Unbowed", during which social networks every day publish videos about the events that preceded the deportation.

The Ingush authorities' attempts to be politically correct and loyal to the federal centre are not understood by the majority of local residents. This opinion has been voiced by Magomed Mutsolgov, the leader of the human rights organization "Mashr", an author of a blog on the "Caucasian Knot".

In 2016, Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov strongly opposed the perpetuation of the Stalin's memory and declared him "our enemy and enemy of 12 other repressed nations."
