Zagidat Abakarova sentenced to eight years in colony

Today, a Makhachkala court has sentenced Zagidat Abakarova, a resident of Dagestan, detained after her voluntary return from Syria, to imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zagidat Abakarova, who had signed a confession before her voluntary return from Syria, was taken into custody in Makhachkala on October 24, despite her breastfed baby. On February 13, the state prosecutor demanded to sentence the woman to 9.5 years in colony as a member of an illegal armed formation (IAF). Abakarova's advocate asked not to deprive the defendant of freedom.

Today, the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala has found Zagidat Abakarova guilty under Part 2, Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and sentenced her to eight years in a general-security colony with a 13-year delay, until her youngest child turns 14 years old, the "Chernovik" weekly reports, adding that the advocate of Zagidat Abakarova said that he would appeal against the verdict at the Supreme Court of Dagestan.

Patimat Abakarova, Zagidat's mother, has treated the verdict as "lawlessness", the Russian Service of the BBC reports.
