Cathedral Mosque of Cherkessk accepts first believers
The first prayer took place in the cathedral mosque still under construction in Cherkessk.
The cathedral mosque was unofficially opened in Cherkessk on February 9. On that day, the first Juma-namaz took place in the mosque.
The total area of the cathedral mosque is 2200 square meters, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) for Karachay-Cherkessia.
During the prayer, the first floor of the mosque was completely filled with believers, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Mufti Ismail Berdiev, the chairman for the Coordination Centre of the Muslims in Northern Caucasus.
"The appearance of a new mosque in Cherkessk can be assessed exclusively in positive. Meanwhile, only the first floor has been completely built, but we already had a prayer in the mosque. There were a lot of people who wanted to pray, and they did not fit on the first floor. When the next floor is completed there will be more place for believers," said Ismail Berdiev.
According to him, there is a mosque in Cherkessk, but it is too small and can accommodate too little number of believers, so a new mosque is needed.
