Film about women's oppression arouses interest in Nalchik
On February 9 and 10, the State Concert Hall in Nalchik hosted the International Documentary Film Festival "We are in the Big World. Stories from Life", organized by the Independent Film Promotion Foundation "Projector of Live Stories".
The festival programme comprises eight documentary films by filmmakers from Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Denmark, Chile, Pakistan, Brazil, Sweden and Germany, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The film "Casablanca Calling", which tells about the public institution of Morhidat in Morocco, has caused the greatest interest among the audience. The Morhidat was introduced by the King of Morocco ten years ago. The role of this institution is to help the women, whose situation in the Islamic world remains difficult. Morhidats are women leaders fighting for other women's rights.
The film, which was shot for four years, focuses on a Morhidat woman, who accompanies the education of teenage girls from villages in an educational institution. The girls live in a dormitory. The Morhidat visits them and holds educational talks with them. She teaches them how to behave, gives advice in difficult life situations, and tries to solve their conflicts with parents.
