In Georgia, investigators to examine video about torture of a soldier
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into the video with torture of a conscript soldier shown on TV.
The investigation is being conducted by the regional Prosecutor's Office of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, and it concerns the death of a conscript soldier in the Muzhava village on the administrative border with Abkhazia.
"The investigation is based on photo and video materials released in the mass media, which allegedly registered the fact of abuse of power by officials from the Department for Special Assignments at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Georgia," reported the Georgian Prosecutor's Office on its website on January 28.
The photo and video materials, reported by the Prosecutor's Office, were shown on the air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company on January 27. The video shows how a commander tortures a half-dressed soldier: grabs him by the head and throws him to the ground.
According to relatives of the deceased conscript soldier, the scandalous video was stored in his mobile phone. The family members believe those materials are directly related to the murder of the soldier, reports the message posted on the website of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company.
