US reporters banned from attending Dagestani Parliament

On January 25, 85 MPs of the Dagestani Parliament voted in support of the resolution to ban reporters of the US media recognized as foreign agents to attend meetings of the Parliament of Dagestan.

On December 21, 2017, a similar initiative was supported by delegates of the Duma for the Krasnodar Territory, and on January 25, delegates of the Duma for the Stavropol Territory also unanimously voted for such an initiative.

In late 2017, the regulation on "foreign agent" media was introduced into Russian legislation as a response to the US actions against the "Russia Today" and "Sputnik" Russian TV Channels. Media receiving financial assistance from foreign states or organizations can be recognized as foreign agents.

Meanwhile, Magomedkadi Gasanov, the chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Interethnic Relations, Affairs of Public and Religious Associations, has reported that no foreign agent media have been registered in Dagestan, the TASS reports.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the Russian "Law on Foreign Agents" adopted in 2012 concerning NCOs financed from abroad and engaged in political activities. Rights defenders criticized the initiative.
