US media reporters banned from access to Stavropol Duma

Delegates have voted to ban reporters of the US editions recognized as foreign agents from attending meetings of the Duma for the Stavropol Territory.

In late 2017, the regulation on foreign agent media was introduced into Russian legislation as a response to the US actions against the "Russia Today" and "Sputnik" Russian TV Channels. Media receiving financial assistance from foreign states or organizations can be recognized as foreign agents.

Duma delegates have noted that on the territory of the region, there is a foreign agent edition, included in the list of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), "Kavkaz.Realii", the "Interfax-South" reports.

The Russian Ministry of Justice has recognized nine media as foreign agents, including Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), the "Nastoyaschee Vremya" TV Channel, the Tatar-Bashkir service of Radio Liberty, "Sibir.Realii", "Idel.Realii", "Factograph", "Kavkaz.Realii", and "Krym.Realii".

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the "Law on Foreign Agents" adopted by the State Duma of Russia in 2012 concerning NCOs financed from abroad and engaged in political activities.
