In Dagestan, HRC "Memorial" car set on fire intentionally

The Makhachkala police have instituted a criminal case under article "deliberate destruction or damage of property" in connection with the arson of a car belonging to the office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 22, in Makhachkala, fire was set to a car of the HRC "Memorial". The car was used by a HRC's advocate who travelled to Chechnya concerning the case against Oyub Titiev, the head of the HRC "Memorial" office in Grozny. The rights defenders treated the arson of the car as an act of intimidation.

On January 23, in Dagestan, members of the HRC "Memorial" got SMS-messages and a phone call with a demand to stop their activities.

According to Oleg Orlov, a member of the board for the HRC "Memorial", the rights defenders also intend to appeal to the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and file a complaint of the crime under three articles, including "destruction of property", "death threats" and "terror act".
