SC supports Dagestani resident who complains of provocation during his detention
On January 17, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan held a session to consider the appeal filed by the Prosecutor's Office against the acquittal pronounced by the Lenin District Court of Makhachkala to Ziyavudin Abdulkhalikov, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
A public prosecutor has requested the SC to revoke the verdict and return the case to the Lenin District Court of Makhachkala for a new trial. The defence of Ziyavudin Abdulkhalikov insisted he was not guilty and the criminal case against him was falsified. As a result, the Supreme Court's judicial panel upheld the acquittal.
Prior to the Supreme Court's session, Konstantin Mudunov, an advocate of Ziyavudin Abdulkhalikov, held a press conference and reported that while pronouncing the Court's decision, Judge Onzholov also voiced a specific decision against the law enforcers involved in the case.
Drugs were planted on Ziyavudin Abdulkhalikov during his detention, the advocate claimed.
"During a personal search of Ziyavudin Abdulkhalikov, law enforcers allegedly found heroin in his pocket. The personal search was filmed with a video camera. Thanks to the record, the defence managed to prove that... the drugs were planted on the defendant," Konstantin Mudunov said.
