Relatives of Temirlan Machalikashvili demand his rehabilitation
Today, the funeral of Temirlan Machalikashvili, who died after being wounded by law enforcers, took place in the village of Duisi in the Pankisi Gorge. His father appealed to the Georgian Prosecutor's Office demanding to assess law enforcers' actions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 19-year-old Temirlan Machalikashvili was wounded in his head during a special operation held in the Pankisi Gorge on December 26, 2017. On January 10, when an agreement was reached about his treatment in Turkey, Machalikashvili died.
According to the Georgian State Security Service (SSS), law enforcers wounded Temirlan, when he tried to throw a grenade at them. His relatives refute this version, and the Prosecutor's Office has initiated an inquiry into abuse of powers by law enforcers.
Mariam Kublashvili, an advocate, has stated that there is plenty of evidence that during the special operation, Temirlan had no grenade in his hand. According to her version, "law enforcers deliberately killed Machalikashvili."
Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, has expressed his condolences to Machalikashvili's family.
