Mikhail Saakashvili treats his guilty verdict in Georgia as illegal

Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili believes the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, which sentenced him to three years of imprisonment for abuse of power, contradicts international norms and common sense.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Tbilisi Court has found Mikhail Saakashvili guilty of abuse of power when pardoning prisoners sentenced in the case on the murder of businessman Sandro Girgvliani.

"The 'verdict' pronounced by the Georgian court ... against me is completely illegal and it contradicts all international, national norms and common sense. To judge the President for using the right to pardon, which is not limited in any way, proves completely political nature of the trial," Mikhail Saakashvili has written today in his Facebook account.

Meanwhile, the former President of Georgia has noted the verdict says that "the Georgian authorities did not find anything significant against him for five years: no facts of corruption or other offenses."
