Georgian doctors agree to Machalikashvili's transfer to foreign clinic

A doctors' concilium has agreed to allow treatment of Temirlan Machalikashvili, who was wounded during a special operation in the Pankisi Gorge, abroad, on which his relatives insist, Zaza Lurmsmanishvili, a hospital spokesman, has stated.

According to the State Security Service of Georgia, during a special operation conducted in the Pankisi Gorge on December 26, 2017, law enforcers wounded 19-year-old Temirlan Machalikashvili when he attempted to throw a grenade to them. The suspect's relatives denied the version voiced by the law enforcement bodies and the Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation under the article on the abuse of power committed by law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after being wounded in his head in the course of the special operation, Temirlan Machalikashvili was under intensive care; his condition was estimated as extremely grave. His father said that the family trusts Georgian doctors, but would like to attract medical specialists from Russia or other countries.

The board of doctors has decided to find an appropriate clinic outside Georgia and transport Temirlan Machalikashvili there, Zaza Lurmsmanishvili, a doctor of the Tbilisi-based clinic named after Archangel Michael, has stated.

"After assessing the risks, we agreed to find an appropriate clinic; then, we'll send documents about the patient's health to this clinic, and after the respective procedures, he'll be transported there," Mr Lursmanishvili said today.

According to his story, the Machalikashvili's family was informed about this decision.
