Court dismisses motions filed by blogger Mekhman Guseinov's defence

The Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) has dismissed the motion filed by advocates of blogger Mekhman Guseinov. The defence has treated the dismissal of the motions as "disregard for justice and law."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after on January 9, blogger Mekhman Guseinov was detained for disobeying the police, he complained of torture. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and Musa Musaev, the chief of the police department, accused the blogger of defamation. Mekhman Guseinov was sentenced to two years of imprisonment.

The advocates have filed motions to review the records from the CCTV cameras installed near the place where Mekhman Guseinov was detained on January 9 and from the video cameras installed at the Nasimi District Police Department. Besides, the defence has also asked to ensure involvement in the trial of Musa Musaev, a private accuser.

"It is clear that the case against Mekhman Guseinov has been fabricated. He is punished for his video exposures disclosing luxury villas of officials and MPs. His stories were popular. His page (blog Sancaq (Pin) in the Facebook, – note of the 'Caucasian Knot') got almost 500,000 subscribers," said Khalid Agaliev, a member of the Media Law Institute.
