Law enforcers used tear gas to detain about 10 people from among those who demanded to meet Vladimir Vasiliev, the acting head Dagestan, said one of the protesting women.

Today, some 30 fire victims from the village of Mokok gathered in the central square of Makhachkala. Policemen would not allow starting a picket, suggesting instead making an appointment at the administration of the head and the government of Dagestan.

On August 21, 2016, after a fire in Mokok, hundreds of villagers lost their homes. One year after the fire, about 200 fire victims demanded to pay them their due compensations within a month, threatening to go on a hunger strike. According to Rizvan Kurbanov, a State Dumas MP from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), most of the victims cannot receive the main parts of their compensations, because the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has failed so far to agree on the complete list of fire victims.

Among those detained is Magomed Saidov, an activist and a lawyer, Rukiyat Ramazanova, one of the fire victims, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
