Exhibition "The Chair in Art" impresses visitors with originality

The authors of the works presented at the exhibition "The Chair in Art" in Maikop managed to disclose, through the images of chairs, the themes of power, loneliness, dependence and death. Visitors to the exhibition were impressed by its originality and diversity.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that "The Chair in Art" exhibition is organized in Maikop by the North-Caucasian Branch of the State Museum of Oriental Arts and the Cultural Centre "The Foundation of Painter Mikhail Shemyakin" (Saint Petersburg). Famous Russia painter Mikhail Shemyakin has selected for the exhibition 192 works by contemporary artists, who managed to reveal the image of a chair as a symbol of this or that feeling.

The opening of the exhibition was notable for its festive atmosphere and gathered about 350 people. On November 10, it was visited by people of all ages – from schoolchildren to pensioners – and of various professions, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The exhibition presents over 400 works of art, each of them dedicated to the chair. Visitors told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they had never before imagined a chair as a theme for an exhibition and a topic for paintings or sculptures.

"I liked the exhibition very much; I saw many different techniques: oil, classics, photos, sculptures; there was even a sort of a performance. The works are very creative; I did not expect the chair to be presented from such different points of view," Angelina Naryzhnova, a student, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
