Maikop exhibition to show feelings through chair images

For the exhibition "The Chair in Art" to be held in Maikop, famous Russian artist Mikhail Shemyakin has selected 192 works of contemporary artists, who managed to reveal the image of the chair as a symbol of emptiness or seclusion. The exhibition will open on November 10.

The exhibition "The Chair in Art" in Maikop is organized by the North-Caucasian Branch of the State Museum of Oriental Arts and the Cultural Centre "The Foundation of Painter Mikhail Shemyakin" (Saint Petersburg).

"The exhibition presents works in various techniques: installation, painting, graphics and photography," Tatiana Kondratenko, deputy director for development of the North-Caucasian Branch of the State Museum of Oriental Arts, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mikhail Shemyakin has himself selected about 200 works for his exposition out of contestants' offers.

"This is not the first joint project with the Mikhail Shemyakin Foundation; and it has become a holiday for the residents of the city," Fatima Suleimanova, the exhibition curator, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
