Over 5000 people come to festival "Ayran Feast" in Karachay-Cherkessia
On September 23, the tourist complex "Medovye Vodopady" (Honey Falls) held the 6th International Festival of Karachay and Balkar Culture "Ayran Feast on Honey Falls".
"Ayran is a cult drink which symbolizes hospitality and is very popular among Karachay and Balkar people. It is pleasant that a festival is held in honour of that curative beverage to gather tourists from all over Russia," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Laura Tekeeva, a participant of the festival.
At the culmination of the holiday, a container with 500 litters of sour-milk ayran beverage was opened, and all people could taste it.
Guests of the festival enjoyed theatrical performances of customs and rites of the Karachay and Balkar people, various exhibitions and fairs of "Altyn kyol" (Skilful Fingers) with products of folk crafts and art-and-craft performance created by families, groups, and individual authors, shows of stylized national clothes and exhibition of own works, represented by the Designers' Union for Karachay and Balkaria. Besides, horse races and horse games were also held.
