Stepanakert residents celebrate City Day

On September 23, residents and guests of Stepanakert celebrated the City Day. The festive events held in the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh included children's sports competitions, an exhibition of art and applied works made by hands of pupils from children's and adult creative centres, a concert of folk ensembles and a performance of a brass band, as well as a contest of drawings on asphalt. The celebrations continued until the evening, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the press service of the Stepanakert Mayoralty.

The leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh and members of the delegation from Yerevan laid flowers at the monument to Stepan Shaumyan, in honour of whom the city of Stepanakert was named.

"In recent years, it has become a good tradition to celebrate the Day of Stepanakert on every fourth Saturday of September. Residents of Stepanakert deserve such a holiday to look back at our city's past, evaluate the present and think about our future plans. Today, each of us can be proud of the heroic past of Stepanakert. It is also necessary to understand the role of each of us in the further development and improvement of the city. I call on all of us to love our city more. Stepanakert is not only the capital of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), but it is also a brand identity for every Armenian," Stepanakert Mayor Suren Grigoryan told journalists.
