Court closes case on liquidation of Ingush Muftiate

The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has reported termination of the proceedings in the case on the liquidation of the Spiritual Centre of Muslims for the Republic of Ingushetia in connection with the conclusion of a settlement agreement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 1, the Supreme Court of Ingushetia started to consider the claim filed by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on liquidation of the public organization "Spiritual Centre of Muslims of Ingushetia" in connection with the violation of the laws on NCOs.

On March 24, 2016, the leader of Ingushetia has announced the dissolution of the Muftiate. According to the Ingush leader, Mufti Isa Khamkhoev fails to cope with his duties and the Muftiate should be reformed.

Let us remind you that the announcement voiced by the Ingush leader was preceded by a conflict over the support of mosques separated from rural communities due to the participation of Mufti Isa Khamkhoev in the gathering held by followers of Sufism in Grozny on February 2, 2016. At the gathering, participants sharply criticized Khamzat Chumakov and Isa Tsechoev, the authoritative religious figures of Ingushetia. Following the event, the participant adopted a resolution, the authors of which recognized Wahhabism as a terrorist trend. The Council of Ingush Teips urged Isa Khamkhoev to resign.
