HRC "Memorial": law enforcers confirm death of one of persons missing in Grozny

An investigator has reported that Ismali Bergoev, one of the persons detained in Grozny on December 17, 2016, died in a hospital three days later from his wounds. This was reported by rights defenders. According to their version, Ismali Bergoev fell victim to extrajudicial execution on January 26.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since January, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" tries to find out the fate of Askhab Yusupov, Ismali Bergoev, and Madina Shakhbieva, detained during a special operation carried out in Grozny on December 17-18, 2017.

According to the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), on December 20, 2016, Ismali Bergoev died in the hospital of Grozny "from wounds got during an armed clash with law enforcers."

The investigators' response to the HRC "Memorial" contradicts a source from the Chechen law enforcement agencies, according to whom on December 22, 2016, Askhab Yusupov and Ismali Bergoev stayed in hospital and their condition allowed primary investigative actions.

According to the rights defenders, Ismali Bergoev and Askhab Yusupov entered the list of 27 detainees, who, according to the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", were executed on January 26.
