Armenia experiences trend of inevitable population decline
During 1.5 years, 18,700 residents left Armenia, reported the National Statistic Service. The downward trend in the country's population will continue. This opinion was voiced by experts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".
As of July 1, according to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the population of the country is 2,979,900 people, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
According to the National Statistical Service, the population of Armenia has been steadily declining in the past two years. For the second half of 2016, the population of the republic decreased by 9000 people (0.31%), while in the first half of 2016, the decline was 3500 people (0.12%). In total, for the past ten years, the population of the country reduced by 243,800 people (7.57%).
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by political analyst Grant Mikaelyan that in 2016, the main reason for migration was in the low rate of economic growth, which, according to his observation, was caused by the April escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, internal political events, poor harvest, and crisis in the partner countries.
According to political analyst Grant Mikaelyan, the demographic situation reflects long-term trends and it will be difficult to change it.
