Two Georgian citizens sentenced for crossing Russian border illegally

In Kabardino-Balkaria, the court has sentenced Georgian citizens to more than two years of imprisonment.

Two Georgian citizens were accused of walking in October of 2016 from the village of Nakra in the Mestia District of Georgia via the Donguz-Orunbashi mountain pass to the territory of Russia. This was reported by the FSB's Border Guard Service Department for Kabardino-Balkaria.

According to the Border Guard Service, in Russia, the Georgian citizens "intended to get legalized, but they were detained by officers from the FSB's Border Guard Service Department for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR)," the "Interfax" reports with reference to the Border Guard Service.

The citizens of Georgia were accused of illegally crossing the state border of the Russian Federation. The Elbrus District Court sentenced them to two years and three months and two years and six months of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony, the RIA "Kabardino-Balkaria" reports today with reference to a source from the FSB's Border Guard Service Department for Kabardino-Balkaria.
