KBR villagers complain about absence of drinking water
The worn-out water supply system in the village of Verkhniy Kurkuzhin causes permanent water cutoffs. Villagers complain that they have to bring water from remote springs and wells, while, according to the administration of the Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), the construction of a new water pipeline will be launched in September.
"Our village has a catastrophic situation with water supply: there is almost no water; the reason is in the dilapidated water pipeline built back in 1957," says the letter addressed to Rustam Kanametov, the head of the district administration.
The situation is especially grave this summer, when due to the heat consumption of water has increased dramatically.
"Because of absence of water, we see risks of our health deterioration,” Khazhmukhamed Kardanov, a villager, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The problem of water supply is topical not only for Verkhniy Kurkuzhin, but also for other villages of the district, said Anatoly Oitov, the deputy head of the administration of the Baksan District, adding that it will be necessary to build 3 km of a new water pipe; and this will need several million roubles. The region cannot cope with this problem alone.
