Karachay-Cherkessian resident sentenced in absentia for joining Syrian militants
The Adyge-Khabl District Court has sentenced Khairdin Shebzukhov in absentia to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
A court hearing has been held without the defendant, since he is outside Russia. Earlier, Khairdin Shebzukhov was put on federal and international wanted lists.
According to investigators, in January 2013, the 27-year-old man left for Egypt, joined militants there and was trained in their camp, and then left for Syria. According to the FSB, he still stays in Syria.
The name of Khairdin Shebzukhov, born in 1990, is also included in the "List of individuals for whom there is information about their involvement in extremist activities or terrorism" on the website of the "Rosfinmonitoring" (Federal Financial Monitoring Service of the Russian Federation).
The "Caucasian Knot" reported that the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against Ingush native Malik Barkhanoev, who, according to the US Treasury Department, joined the ranks of Syrian militants.
