POC member announces end of Darya Polyudova’s hunger strike

Marina Kaluzhskaya, a member of the Public Observation Commission (POC) of the Krasnodar Territory, has told the "Caucasian Knot" that Darya Polyudova, a Krasnodar activist, has stopped her hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kuban activist Darya Polyudova went on hunger strike in a penal colony with the demands to stop provocations against her.

Darya Polyudova was among the organizers of the march scheduled in August 2014 but never held against the Russia's policy to Ukraine. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" put her on the list of political prisoners.

According to Marina Kaluzhskaya, POC members kept this situation under control. However, today, according to Ms Kaluzhskaya, Darya Polyudova has stopped her hunger strike.

"According to our information, she actually took some food during her hunger strike; therefore, her health condition does not require any our prompt intervention," said Marina Kaluzhskaya.

In his turn, Victor Chirikov, a Krasnodar activist and a member of the “Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus” (EcoWatch), said that on August 5, together with Dmitry Shevchenko, a deputy coordinator of “EcoWatch”, he visited Darya Polyudova at the Novorossiysk colony.

"We always have difficulties in getting meetings with her; and this is a violation," Chirikov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, Darya Polyudova "is in an extremely depressed state; she feels bad, both morally and physically."

"The entire colony is against her; and her placement into another cell brought no results; the situation has become even worse," said Victor Chirikov.

"There was no reaction of colony bosses to Polyudova’s statement about the start of her hunger strike. She claims that no one has called her and has not even tried to get into the situation," said the activist.
