Circassian activist and historian Almir Abregov dies
Almir Abregov, the first chairman of the "Adyge Khase-Circassian Parliament" for Adygea, the former director of the National Museum of Adygea, died in the 73rd year of his life. When commenting on the loss, Circassian activists stated that the strategist of the Adyg national movement had gone.
According to the information from the Circassian activists, Almir Abregov died on August 1, at about 2:00 p.m.
The Circassian activists noted that being an erudite, analyst and strategist of the national movement, Almir Abregov was an author of a number of appeals to various instances for the recognition of the Circassian genocide during and after the Russian-Caucasian War.
"Being the permanent director of the National Museum of Adygea, he, on the one hand, turned it into one of the richest museums in Northern Caucasus, and on the other, for many years, he prevented its 'official' looting. In recent years, he was engaged in comparative linguistics, including borrowings in the language of the Circassians' ancestors from the language of ancient Indo-Europeans," the agency "NatPress" reports.
The President of Abkhazia expressed his condolences to family members of Almir Abregov.
