Volgograd Navalny’s supporters treat felling Widow's Park as memorial desecration
Roman Rubanov, the leader of the Anti-Corruption Fund has appealed to a district investigating division of Volgograd, suggesting that cutting down the Widow's Park at the Mamaev Mound may look like a public desecration of the symbols of Russia's military glory.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 27, it became known that at the foot of the Mamaev Mound, they have cut down the so-called “Widows' Park” that Volgograd residents has started in 1965.
In connection with the fact, Mr Rubanov asked to initiate a criminal case under the article of "Rehabilitation of Nazism, including desecration of symbols of Russian military glory, committed in public". In his opinion, the Widows’ Park "was of a memorial nature."
According to the lawyer Ilya Pavlenko, the Rubanov's application has formally identified the crime attributes; however, most likely, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) will see no corpus delicti in this case.
"The Park is undoubtedly a cultural heritage for the region and the whole of Russia. My opinion as a lawyer is to check those who gave the go-ahead for the felling," he said.
