Russia's SC finds liquidation of "Jehovah's Witnesses" legal

At today's session, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia has ruled to reject the appeal complaint of "Jehovah's Witnesses". The decision to liquidate all the organization thereof has came into force.

Thus, the organization "Administrative Centre of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia" has been recognized as extremist, and its activities in Russia are prohibited by the court. At the today's session, representatives of "Jehovah's Witnesses" insisted that they had never been engaged in extremism.

"On July 17, 2017, the Russia's SC missed its last chance to restore the law and justice in relation to 175,000 Russian citizens, who profess the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses," says the report posted on the website of "Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia".

The activists of human rights organizations and religious scholars, earlier interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", refused to consider the statement of "Jehovah's Witnesses" about the genuineness of their religion as extremism. In their opinion, the belief in the exclusivity of their dogma is inherent in many religious movements; therefore, the ban on the activities of "Jehovah's Witnesses" on this basis is groundless.
