Nogais ask Putin to intervene in Dagestani conflict

Leaders of the Nogai organizations of Russia and Kazakhstan have sent an appeal to President Vladimir Putin asking him to influence the situation in the Nogai District of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, the deputies of the District Assembly cancelled the appointment of Baimagomed Yarlykapov as acting head of the Nogai District, and elected Ruslan Nasyrov to the post. However, on July 6, Yarlykapov went into the administration building, accompanied by power agents, and occupied the office of the district head. On the same day, at a rally, local residents demanded from the authorities to recall power agents.

The authors of the above appeal to Mr Putin have complained about the violation of the Charter of the Nogai District, which, in their opinion, was admitted at appointing Yarlykapov.

According to their version, "Yarlykapov occupied the post of the acting head of the district under control of power agents," while district deputies and activists are under pressure.

Earlier, the leaders of the Nogai organizations and communities from Russia and Kazakhstan circulated a video appeal to the authorities of Dagestan with a demand to stop persecuting activists and exerting pressure on the election process.
