70 people hold picket in Rostov-on-Don in support of law on animal protection
Today, in Rostov-on-Don, a picket in defence of stray animals has brought together about 70 participants, who demanded a prompt adoption of the bill to protect animals and create a municipal shelter.
The action was held in Lenin Square. The picketers brought posters, photos of killed animals and fodder for stray animals. Some people brought their pets with them, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The picketers collected signatures to two resolutions: one – with the demand to adopt the animal protection bill as soon as possible; they intend to send signatures to the State Duma of the Russian Federation; and the second - with a request to create a municipal shelter – it is addressed to Vitaly Kushnaryov, the head of the city administration.
"We went out to the picket in order to show the society that it is very important and necessary to adopt this law more quickly," Ekaterina Shakirova, a picketer, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Any protraction unleashes the hands of those, who abuse animals; and we can't protect them. We also want a decision on building a normal municipal shelter," she has added.
