Inscription "Grozny" found written on a building wall in Palmyra

An Internet user has published a photo with the name of the Chechen capital made on a wall of an ancient building in the Syrian city of Palmyra. Users of social networks have suggested that the inscription was left by Russian soldiers, who participated in the military operation in Syria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2016, a battalion of the military police from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) was sent to Syria from Chechnya. On June 24, a new battalion of the Chechen military police returned from Syria without casualties.

On July 1, Andrei Zakharov, a reporter of the magazine "RBC", posted a photo with the inscription reading "Grozny" in his Twitter. According to him, the photo was made by Kirill Romanovsky, a military reporter for the Federal News Agency (FAN).

The second photo shows the inscription "Nina" written on a wall of an ancient building.

A user with the nickname GlavSite has doubted the authenticity of the photo. "It was made with Photoshop. An author should be ashamed," wrote the Internet user.

Other Internet users have suggested that the inscription was left by Russian soldiers.

The Syrian city of Palmyra was twice released from militants of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia, with the assistance of the Russian armed forces.
