Savelieva complains to ECtHR about violation of her rights in Sochi

Lyudmila Savelieva, a so-called "Olympic resettler" from Sochi, has sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about violations of her rights to property and housing. Sochi advocates believe the subject of the complaint to be promising.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2011, the Saveliev family of five persons, including two children, was evicted from the barrack, which was later demolished during the construction of the Olympic highway. Having received no housing in exchange, in February 2015, the family occupied a cottage in the settlement of Vesyoloye Psou, intended for Olympic resettlers. On May 22, court marshals forced the family out of the cottage, and it was temporarily sheltered by neighbours.

The Savelievs insist that eviction without the provision of some other housing is inadmissible by the legislation of the Russian Federation. They are registered as a family in a difficult life situation.

According to the pensioner Lyudmila Savelieva, her right to property, and respect for her private life and home were violated during the eviction without providing some other housing or paying the compensation.

The woman has noted that during her struggle for housing rights she became an invalid, and her family collapsed.

There are chances that the ECtHR will accept Savelieva's complaint, the lawyer Mikhail Benyash believes.

He pointed to the exhaustion of all measures of legal protection in Russia, and the correct application of the international law, violated at the consideration of judicial disputes in Russia.
