North-Ossetian authorities announce construction of new bridges instead of those destroyed by floods

Designers received assignments to project new bridges in the villages of Verkhni Biragzang and Tsrau of the Alagir District, as well as between the villages of Krasnogor, Ardon District, and Nikolayevskaya, Digora District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on June 21, the emergency regime was announced in the Alagir District after a breakthrough of a gas pipeline that feeds three settlements. Also, a flood washed away a bridge over the Tsakhsadyk River in Verkhni Biragzang; the village was cut off from other settlements. Villagers and tourists were evacuated.

The authorities of North Ossetia intend to build new bridges in the dwelling settlements that are most vulnerable to flooding, the republic's committee for roads has reported.

Oleg Goncharenko, an expert, has explained that the bridge in Verkhni Biragzang was not designed for such a rapid water flow.

The construction of the above three bridges will start in Quarter 3 this year; however, the commissioning dates are unknown. So far, a temporary crossing in Verkhni Biragzang and bridges across the Tsraudon and Ursdon Rivers will be used.
