Organizer of anti-corruption rally in Makhachkala avoids administrative punishment

Policemen disrupted an action in the Makhachkala "Hyde Park", where activists planned to out questions to Russian President on the eve of his direct line, said Nurmagomed Gazimagomedov. According to his story, he was released from the police station in the evening on June 14, without drawing up any administrative protocol.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gazimagomedov had come to the park, along with his friends, to read out an appeal to President Vladimir Putin.

Nurmagomed Gazimagomedov was the organizer of the anti-corruption rally on May 27 in Makhachkala, where people criticised the republic's authorities.

"Policemen wrote in the protocol that I had used foul language in a public place and failed to obey them. It's not true, I did nothing of the sort," said Gazimagomedov.

"The police said they received an order 'from above' to detain me... They said I was doing useless things, since it's impossible to achieve justice here – they said they support my position," Gazimagomedov has added.

The questions they wanted to ask the president, "concerned corruption in Dagestan, public health and social facilities," Gazimagomedov said. However, he stressed that he is not a supporter of the politician Alexei Navalny.

Marat Ismailov, a Dagestani lawyer, has stated that he considers Gazimagomedov's detention unjustified.
