Armenian political analysts believe in introduction of sanctions against Azerbaijan

According to political analyst Sergey Minasyan, it is possible that Armenia may use political tools of pressure against Azerbaijan, including economic sanctions. The sanctions will allow avoiding escalation of the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone, believes political analyst Stepan Safaryan.

"There is a situation, in which co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group should take concrete steps to curb the provocative policy of Azerbaijan," Edvard Nalbandyan, Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated today at a conference with his Estonian counterpart Sven Mikser.

"The international community can exert pressure on Azerbaijan to prevent a new escalation," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Sergey Minasyan, the deputy director of the Caucasus Institute.

Meanwhile, the political analyst doubts that an arms embargo will be imposed on Azerbaijan. He has added that the EU countries and the US have imposed an informal embargo on the supply of arms to the parties to the Karabakh conflict.

Sergey Minasyan has also noted the lack of progress in the negotiations.

Political analyst Stepan Safaryan believes that the Western countries and the US could put pressure on Azerbaijan to prevent the April 2016 war.

Political analyst Manvel Sarkisyan, the director of the Armenian Centre for Strategic and National Studies, treats as incorrect the position of the Armenian side "that wants to deprive Azerbaijan of making short-term decisions."
